How She Entered Pageants: NAM, Not Miss USA Documented
- In interviews, Erika says she got into pageants after receiving a "nomination" in the mail — describing mail that said she'd been "nominated" to compete for the pageant.
- Recruitment-by-mail is how National American Miss (NAM) operates — an "Open Call" letter stating "you have been selected as a possible candidate," inviting recipients to an info/casting session. Confirmed by a primary-source NAM letter signed by a NAM state director.
- Miss USA / Miss Universe does not recruit by mailed nomination. Entry is through state qualifying pageants a contestant applies to.
- Her documented entry point was NAM Teen Arizona (2006–07), per the yearbook — a NAM title, not a Miss USA-system pageant.
- Across multiple interviews, she describes the mail nomination but does not name NAM, even though NAM was her actual starting point.

My Analysis Analysis
- The credentials are standard pageant-platform activity. As a former pageant mom, gift drop-offs to kids and Humane Society work are exactly what platform builds look like — not evidence of a substantial operating charity.
- In youth pageantry the mother runs the operation — practice, appearances, paperwork — while the child performs. That's the world I know firsthand.
- The timing fits a résumé pattern. A nonprofit founded right as she entered competition, kept tiny for 16 years, with no independent footprint, reads — in my analysis — more like a parent-built credential than an independently operating charity.
- The NAM omission leaves a more-prestigious impression than the timeline supports. Consistently describing a mail nomination without naming the actual pageant (NAM) frames her start around Miss USA. Whether the omission is deliberate, I can't say — but the omission itself is consistent across her tellings.
